Meet our CoreBalance Team...
Jennifer Mathews –
Owner/Certified Pilates Instructor
Jennifer Mathews grew up in a small community in the upstate of South Carolina called Hickory Tavern. A former competitive gymnast, Jennifer has always been involved in physical fitness. After spending time in the corporate world as a CPA and then as the Accounting Manager at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, she became certified to teach group fitness classes and enjoyed teaching in her spare time.
In 2005, Jennifer suffered from a mysterious autoimmune illness that left her in constant widespread pain and barely able to perform daily tasks. Not wanting to load her body up on medications, she sought out alternative treatments. One suggestion was to do Pilates. She began taking private apparatus sessions. Through Pilates her body began to heal. Not only did it heal, she experienced a total transformation. She was amazed at the changes and how much stronger and more flexible she was. Experiencing these astounding results in her own body, she realized she had found her life passion and began to pursue professional training. She first earned a Pilates Mat Certification through Powerhouse Pilates and then went on to complete a comprehensive certification through Peak Pilates, a worldwide training program designed by master trainers Colleen Glenn and Clare Dunphy. She is a true believer in the quote by Joseph Pilates-"Change happens through movement and movement heals."
Jennifer continues to refine her teaching skills of the authentic Pilates method by attending workshops and working one on one with some of the world's most recognized Pilates trainers, such as Mejo Wiggin, Kathryn Ross-Nash, Chris Robinson, Brooke Siler, Peter Fiasca, Clare Dunphy, Brett Howard, Michael Fritzke, Ton Voogt and Dorothee Vandewalle.
After teaching Pilates at various locations, Jennifer became the owner of Pilates Moves in November 2009. In June of 2011 the studio moved from its original location to a new location at 1941 Woodruff Road. The need for a larger space and the desire to add additional classes brought another move to the current location in January 2015. The new space called for a new identity, and Jennifer's clients were actively involved in the rebranding by voting for the new name, CoreBalance. In addition to authentic Pilates, CoreBalance offers Yoga and Barre classes.
In February of 2016, Jennifer went to Indianapolis, Indiana to get certified in the Rock Steady Boxing method. Rock Steady Boxing is a non-contact boxing style fitness class designed to improve the lives and reduce the symptoms of those living with Parkinson's Disease (PD). Jennifer's mother was diagnosed with PD in 2010. Jennifer, along with her Dad, are bringing Rock Steady Boxing classes to Greenville to help those living with PD to fight back against their disease.
When she is not in the studio, Jennifer enjoys family time with her husband, Rick, and two sons, Brady and Sawyer.
Cari Chee – Certified Yoga Instructor
Cari Chee came to yoga in 2009 because she needed a calm, quiet space, even if only for a few hours a week. Cari still uses yoga to find that sense of calm in the storm that life can sometimes be. Over the years, yoga has helped her to heal multiple personal injuries, including in her shoulder, wrist, and low back. Cari loves engaging with people and hearing their stories, and she strives to create a safe space for others, especially those who feel they don’t quite fit in anywhere else.
Cari completed her Yoga Teacher Training with Liz Delaney at Greenville Yoga in 2015 and is registered with Yoga Alliance for their 200-hour level.
